I may have said this before, but I love talking about movies more than I love movies. I would say it's become a problem, but honestly, that's a lie. I will say that it creates interesting thoughts.
For example, two movies my husband and I saw in the theater together in the very early stages of our relationship are Planet of the Apes (Tim Burton style) and The Score. Both not good movies in their own special way, but The Score is infinitely better. I made the casual comment that The Score is better just based on the actors in each movie. Clearly more Oscar wins. Pause. But what about nominations?
It was on (but not for very long). I started making rules of which people to include in the count and should it be for acting only(no)? I didn't want to discount the power of Paul Giamatti and Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP). In doing so I underestimated Marlon Brando and Robert DeNiro.
The count ended:
Planet of the Apes
Mark Wahlberg 0 wins, 2 nominations
Tim Roth 0 wins, 1 nomination
Helena Bonham Carter 0 wins, 2 nominations
Paul Giamtti 0 wins, 1 nomination
Michael Clark Duncan 0 wins, 1 nomination
Kris Kristofferson 0 wins, 1 nomination
Charlton Heston 2 wins, 2 nominations
Total 2 wins, 10 nominations
The Score
Robert DeNiro 2 wins, 7 nominations
Marlon Brando 2 wins, 8 nominations
Edward Norton 0 wins, 3 nominations
Angela Bassett 0 wins, 1 nominations
Total 4 wins, 19 nominations
That would have been a cool conversation if I hadn't ignored my my husband to research the numbers. Sorry honey.
