The Maiden Post

For a long time I was seriously struggling to come up with the best topic to be the first post. Finally coming to my senses, I realized that this isn't going to be fed to high school seniors to write about on the AP English Exam. This is just for fun. So for a simple and quite amusing first go around I present my first deep thought.

I was watching Family Guy, the one where Peter and Lois both run for president of the P.T.A. While they are debating, Peter tried to win the audience by claiming he tried to save a teen center, but as it turns out he was just remember the plot from Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. This makes me chuckle because of Clerks: The Animated Series which also made a little reference to this movie as well. After the end of the episode, I turn it to South Park. I just caught the end of it, so I had to look up the synopsis to make sure they were making fun of the movie Better Off Dead like I thought they were. (Call me a sucker, but John Cusack was my first Hollywood crush so I have a soft spot for that movie.) Reading through I see the plot involves the boys trying to save a teen center, a plot element added to help their making fun of 80's movies.

So let me see if I got this straight. Two animated shows on at the same time referencing the same movie. I know shows of a Simpson genre have a tendency to reference the same movies, but this wasn't really the The Godfather or Lord of the Rings. Come on, freaking Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. (As a side note, the same night I saw The Simpsons episode with James Caan so that was pretty funny timing.) I think this means I need to stop watching my prime time animated shows and get back to my Law and Order. (Original, SVU, CI, or Extra Crispy? I haven’t decided yet.)
